Why do you need to register your SIM card?




The government has ordered SIM registration for all mobile operators in Bangladesh to prevent illegal and criminal activities using mobile phones. SIM registration will also help the government to provide better services and facilities to the citizens. By registering your SIM card, you will be able to enjoy various benefits such as mobile banking, e-commerce, e-governance and more.


How to register your SIM card?




To register your SIM card, you need to have a valid NID or passport. You also need to have the SIM card that you want to register in your phone. You can register your SIM card by following these steps:


  • Visit your nearest customer care center of your mobile operator with your NID or passport and SIM card.



  • Fill up a SIM registration form with your personal details and NID or passport number.



  • Provide a biometric fingerprint scan of your thumb or index finger.



  • Receive a confirmation SMS from your mobile operator that your SIM registration is successful.



You can also register your SIM card online through the websites of your mobile operators. You will need to upload a scanned copy of your NID or passport and provide a biometric verification through an app or a webcam.


What is the deadline for SIM registration?




The government has set a deadline for SIM registration for all mobile operators in Bangladesh. The deadline is different for different operators. Here are the deadlines for each operator:


  • GrameenPhone: 31 December 2023



  • Robi: 30 November 2023



  • Airtel: 31 October 2023



  • Banglalink: 30 September 2023



  • Teletalk: 31 August 2023



  • Citycell: 31 July 2023



If you fail to register your SIM card by the deadline, your SIM card will be deactivated and you will not be able to use it anymore. You will also lose your balance, contacts, messages and other data stored on your SIM card.


How to check your SIM registration status?




You can check your SIM registration status by dialing a USSD code on your phone. The USSD code is different for different operators. Here are the USSD codes for each operator:


  • GrameenPhone: *2# or *111*8*



  • Robi: *140*2*4#



  • Airtel: *121*7*3#



  • Banglalink: *511#



  • Teletalk: *152#



  • Citycell: *1600#
